"FINANCIAL LITERACY SHOULD BE TAUGHT IN SCHOOL"

Financial Literacy should be a compulsory subject in South African schools – not just a watered down once-a week option, but a full-blown subject on which they need to write exams. Even better, why not start this in primary school level to introduce children to the basics of financials, so it becomes engrained in their lives?”

WHY IS FINANCIAL LITERACY SO IMPORTANT?

Gustav Neethling, Director of The Financial Emporium, believes that financial literacy is as important as general literacy in South Africa.

SOUTH AFRICA NEEDS TO ADDRESS FINANCIAL LITERACY

“Illiteracy is by far the biggest contributors to our low level of savings and high levels of credit, but definitely not the only one.

MOST SOUTH AFRICANS DO NOT HAVE WILLS

“It is alarming that only about 10% of the South African population have a valid will. The risks associated with not having a valid and adequate will in unpredictable times are enormous and can have a very undesirable effect on those you leave behind.”

THE HARD REALITY OF DYING WITHOUT A WILL

Life can be unpredictable and, in the light of the fact that most South Africans do not have valid wills, it inevitably happens that a lot of people die intestate.

A WILL NOT A CASE OF ‘YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT YOU DON’T KNOW’

A good financial plan can guide you to financial independence and protect you and your family against an uncertain future. Such a financial plan encompasses all aspects of your financial wellbeing, including the drafting of your will, which will basically be the culmination of a lifetime of careful and strategic financial planning.
